“Thanks to Jo I just experienced the best pregnancy massage I have ever had. I felt so comfortable as soon as I met Jo and she was so thorough finding out all about my previous pregnancy and current niggles at 33 weeks and was able to tailor the massage accordingly. I was so comfortable throughout and so relaxed I almost fell asleep. I can highly recommend her to everyone and have booked her up for a few more sessions before my due date and will no doubt continue to use her afterwards too!” Joanne, TW3

Once we have been pregnant and given birth, our bodies are post natal. The process that our body goes through is amazing and one that I find fascinating!
Pregnancy changes posture, core integrity, the way we walk, run & exercise. As these changes happen we need to be aware & ensure we are also adapting. More self care is needed! And you deserve it more than ever!

Being pregnant can lead to aches & pain, in some cases conditions such as SPD occur. There are the more common ailments – heartburn, constipation, lower back, hip and neck stiffness. The diagram above shows how our centre of gravity changes due to a growing, beautiful bump!
A regular pregnancy massage can help alivate a lot of these symptoms, increase movement, reduce pain and more importantly allows you to prepare for the birth.

Post-Pregnancy-Tummy-Massage

The post natal period is a time for healing, rest & recovery; massage (soft tissue therapy) helps with that process.
Some of the issues that you may be experiencing:
Top of shoulders and chest feeling tight and rounded?
Neck feel restricted?
Forward head position and chin sticking out?
Not able to breath deeply and fully?
Core integrity compromised?
Lower back pain?
Feeling you are ‘protecting’ your tummy with your posture? Pelvis position changed?
Bum muscles sore?
C section scar feeling tight? Numb?
Tummy gap?
These are all completely normal and we work together using various strategies; abdominal massage, breath coaching, referral to specialist movement professionals, c section scar management, diastasis recti massage and home care advice to name a few to improve and alleviate.
The BEST bit is you come & lie down for 90 mins and are looked after! Bliss!
I have undertaken additional & advanced training so I have the knowledge & understanding to ensure that you receive a treatment appropriate and effective to your individual needs.

Self care…what does it REALLY mean?

Exciting news! I AM GOING AWAY FOR 2 NIGHTS! Woop! No domestic, boring cr*p, just ALL THE TIME just FOR ME!!

Self care is SO much more that having a bubble bath occasionally! Its sanity survival for your soul! Its carving out time to do what you want, what you need, what you are always day dreaming about! Whether its reading that book, going on that cookery course, feeling heard, having a walk, going shopping, painting, having a massage (I know a very good therapist you know!) and not feeling so bloody overwhelmed all the time!

Its a journey! It takes work to get to a place where you recognise what you need and how to get it!

Get your diary and do an audit…how much time is spend running around after other people?? Lots? Stop doing it and say no! You are going to need your big girl pants on but you can do it!

Write a list of all the things you want & need to do to make you happy, properly happy! Talk to who you need to to enable you to get those activities or whatever on your PROIRITY list! You come first, end of! You will be a nicer person! I promise!

This sh*t is real life! Lets make it more about LIVING it!

What does self care mean to you? Let me know!

Exercise is not a punishment! I had to remind myself of that!

This video is about my reaction to being told I have to lose 1 stone 9 pounds in 8 weeks for an upcoming operation!
I am not an exercise professional, but as a soft tissue/massage therapist, I know about the body & how moving my body is essential for bone health, protecting muscle mass, metabolic system, respiratory system, heart health, pelvic floor and core engagement and to increase those ‘feel good’ hormones! That’s MOVING my body not BEASTING myself!
I went into a frenzy! Booking all the high impact exercise classes at my gym, going online and doing home work outs that consisted of power star jumps and high knees! (I know FULL well that’s is more to do with nutrition than sweating it out at the gym! But that’s a whole other video! )
Luckily, I have calmed down & engaged my brain!
That kind of ‘exercise’ isn’t going to help! I am using it as a way of punishing myself! Old habits die hard! I am actually doing more harm than good!
So! I have come to my senses and got realistic! What CAN I do to move safely and kindly whilst not causing any injury and protecting my pelvic floor, core and actually all of my body!
I can swim, I can walk and I can utilise the bespoke, safe movement patterns that I have been given by EXPERTS!
Expert coaches and fitness professionals that understand what my body is going through, what hurts and why and what movement I need to do to change that!
That is where I am now physically and I need to be respectful of that! Its not forever, I will progress, but right here, today, its specific to me, kind to me and achievable!
I will post links in the comments section here so you can find your expert! Please do!

So…what does happen during a massage treatment?!

What can I do to make sure you feel like you have had a ‘good’ treatment?

How can I make you feel special?

How can I offer value for money?

Jo Warboys shooting-57

I appreciate that deciding to spend money on ourselves is sometimes a big decision, its a great decision to make! You are investing in your everyday health.
So, once you are booked in I am committed to make sure you get the very most out of the treatment.

We will talk through a consultation, medical history, stress levels, what you are hoping to get out of the session.
Then I put together a mix of massage techniques to treat you, each massage is different! No set routines here!

Jo Warboys shooting-27

My aim is to help improve any areas of tension, chronic conditions, stress levels etc.

The body is always striving for balance, physically & mentally. All of our body systems work in conjunction with each other therefore we will always work together to treat you holistically.
Sometimes, that word ‘holistic’ can evoke perceptions!! Don’t worry! I won’t start clinking bells & chanting! Holistic in massage terms is to treat the body as a whole!

Jo Warboys shooting-33

Aftercare is also really important. Follow up advice & suggestions are all part of your session. Tense shoulders? I can suggest stretches. High stress levels? I can point you towards relaxation techniques. Need a bit more help? I can refer you to a suitable fellow practitioner, personal trainer, osteopath etc.

Got any questions? Just ask!

Jo Warboys shooting-64
